Meher Baba's New Life

The New Life began on October 16, 1949 and ended on February 12, 1952. During this two-and-a-half-year period, Baba seemingly set aside His Divinity to play the role of a seeker or lover of God, a role which He played to perfection.

One of the companions who accompanied Baba on the New Life , described the suffering they had to endure this way:

“Suppose you are on an ocean liner in the icy waters of the north Atlantic and you hit an iceberg. The ship is going down in a matter of minutes. What does it matter what your reputation is, how much money you have in the bank, how beautiful your wife is, how to atone for the sins of your past? In a matter of moments you will be no more. If in the New Life you were willing to become a dead man, the life was easy. But if there was anything in this world you held on to, the New Life was a tremendous suffering.”
